    How Implants Work

Dental implants are synthetic tooth roots that function like natural tooth roots.

This is what makes them stand out as a tooth replacement treatment against their counterparts; unlike dentures and bridges, they are placed into the jawbone, allowing them to support the volume and density of the jawbone. This means your facial structure stays intact, and your chewing function feels exactly as it did when you had your own natural, healthy teeth.

Several teeth can be supported and replaced using a single dental implant. The implant screw can securely hold a bridge of up to four teeth, providing strong, stable support that can last a lifetime with proper care and oral hygiene.

Implants do not rely on suction or the help of other teeth (like dentures and bridges do). Therefore, the crown that sits over the top looks and feels much more like your natural teeth.

    Types of Implant

Dental implants offer a long-term solution for replacing missing teeth by securely anchoring

artificial roots into the jawbone. Different implant options are available to

suit individual needs, oral health, and bone structure.

    Single Dental Implants

Replaces one missing tooth with a secure, natural-looking restoration.

    All on 4 Dental Implants

A fixed full-arch solution supported by four strategically placed implants.

    All on 6 Dental Implants

A full-arch replacement offering stability and long-term support with six implants.

    Dental Implants Process

    Step 1: Initial Consultation

A thorough consultation to discuss your suitability for dental implants and explain each stage of the treatment.

Step 2: Detailed Assessment & Imaging

CBCT scans, X-rays, and clinical photographs are taken to assess your jaw, teeth, and gums. A personalised treatment plan is then created for your approval.

    Step 3: Implant Placement

The implant is carefully placed under local anaesthetic. The jawbone is given time to heal and bond with the implant, usually over 3–6 months.

Step 4: Digital Scans & Crown Creation

Precise digital scans or impressions are taken to design a custom-made crown that matches your natural teeth.

    Step 5: Final Restoration

Once healing is complete, your bespoke crown is securely fitted to the implant, restoring function and appearance.

    Frequently Asked Questions

One of the many reasons to get an implant is that it can be permanent. Whilst you will need to have your crown replacement every 10-20 years, the implant itself has the potential to last a lifetime. Just remember that gum disease can affect implants the same way as it affects teeth. Therefore, good oral hygiene and check-ups are essential.

Patients must have enough healthy jawbones for implant placement, which we can identify using a CBCT scanner. We may be able to refer you for a bone graft if you are not currently a suitable candidate for treatment.

Your implant will allow you to eat any foods you like. You won’t have to say ‘no’ to chewy and crunchy foods that may previously have been a challenge when you were missing a tooth or had slipping and sliding dentures.

Most patients return to normal activities within a few days, with complete healing typically taking a few months.
